Eugene O's Story
Life
I started life after high school by attending the US Naval Reserve boot camp in Bainbridge, MD. I worked for Bell Labs in Whippany and a subsidiary until I left NJ in April 57. In May 57 I started my 2 year active duty on the aircraft carrier USS Hancock, CVA-19 as an Electronic Tech. While I was cruising the Pacific, my parents moved again from Whittier, CA to Florida. On my first return to home port in Alameda, CA, I met my wife to be, Maria in San Francisco. We married in October of 1959 just after I was discharged and did a 6 week roundtrip to NJ, FL and back to work at the Hunters Pt Naval Shipyard in San Francisco. I went to work for Hewlett Packard May 1960 and took early retirement in Oct 1991. Our three children were born at St Mary's hospital in San Francisco: Marco, Nov 60; Steve, Oct 61; and Jennifer, May 64. Marco is a Pediatrician and Teen Clinic director at Kaiser Medical in Redwood City, CA. Steve is a Social Worker in San Fran, CA. Jennifer is an RN in Pediatric Intensive Care at UC San Francisco. Marco gave us our first three grandsons, Rudy 1985, Jesse 1988 and Lucas 1992. Steve says he is a batchelor forever while Jennifer has Isabel 1997, and Sofia 1999.
Activities I have especially enjoyed are: learning to read, write and speak Spanish fluently while being fascinated by my wife's birthplace, Guatemala; umpiring youth baseball; refereeing ice hockey for 25 years; buildi...Expand for more
ng a 1,000 sq foot addition to our family home, a two year project; taking many family vacations all over the US and one 7 week tour of Mexico and Guatemala by car.
As soon as I left Hewlett Packard, I started seasonal work as a Tax Preparer, eventually passing the IRS two day exam to become an Enrolled Agent (EA). I am now a self-employed Tax Consultant, working from my home office.
I look forward to attending another GCHS reunion. I have been working sporadically on a "database" of the class of '55 and I would like input from as many of the graduates as possible. The best place to send updates about our classmates is to: Bette Auble Ramsey. She did a great job editting and updating the data for the 50th in 2005.
